FINE ART & COMMISSIONED PORTRAITS
I enjoy drawing and painting just about everything under the sun -- especially people. My work is mostly figurative but not exclusively. I like to seek out rarely viewed encounters of people as they go about their daily routine, presenting them in an interesting and colorful way.
In my studio, I regularly experiment with a variety of design approaches in order to express a particular mood or narrative. Essentially, each project is another challenge to convey my work as if it were a visual poem.
I want the viewer to have a unique experience while interpreting my work. Hopefully awakening something within them that has impact and translates as meaningful.
In 1976, Thomas acquired formal training through a scholarship to Parsons School of Design in New York City. Mentoring renown artists, Joe Bowler and Murray Tinkelman encouraged Thomas to focus his art studies within the school's Department of Illustration.
During Thomas's first year, he was hired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art as an illustrator for the museum’s costume reproduction department. The painting and drawing experience he received from the institutions there attributed greatly to his gaining invaluable direction as an artist.
Since that time, Thomas has continued to create original fine art, illustration and design projects for public and private collections within museums, universities and galleries, exhibiting throughout the United States and internationally.
